Hello and welcome to Learning ecommerce! — My blog about starting and growing my online store.
Since 2016, I’ve operated the business as a one-person, zero-employee company.
And it’s been kind of successful (far more than I could have imagined, anyway).
But now I want to test myself and try interesting new challenges.
Here’s where I’ve been for the last few years:
Stuck in this concept called The Region Beta Paradox.
I could bullshit you and say I’m only here to teach others.
But I’ve gotta be honest and say my main reasons for starting this blog are selfish ones.
First off, I want to get creative again — excited about something.
Second, I also want to connect with people like me, who might end up reading what I write one day.
And third, I want to put myself out there and hope that another business might see what I’ve done and ask me to work with them.
For a while now, I’ve dreamt of owning a one-person marketing agency — kind of like Designjoy.
I made this website nearly 2 years ago. Then I didn’t write a single blog post.
At first, I wanted to create a roadmap-style site like learningseo.com — a hub with links to all the best resources for people who want to start an e-commerce business.
And one day it might still be that, but for now, I want to share what I learn and how I apply that.
So why now?
Well, it’s a long story. I’ll probably tell you the details one day.
But you don’t wanna read a long-winded post full of complaining from a stranger whose blog you’ve never read.
Basically, I started in e-commerce with a business partner. And it hasn’t worked out how I thought it would. That’s the 3-second version of the story.
Oh yeah, side note: here’s a quick overview of the business, just for context.
> Home/industrial niche
> Bootstrapped from zero as a side hustle
> Operated by myself only (but have a co-owner)
> On track for close to £200,000 turnover this financial year
> Selling on Amazon, eBay, and Shopify
Over the years, it’s become clear that I’m not going to live the life I want by doing what I’m currently doing.
I realised this after a recent meeting. And since then, I’ve decided to look at new opportunities.
Then yesterday, I randomly came across Sahil Bloom’s 30-for-30 Challenge.
I decided I wanted to develop my writing skills for 30 days. And this blog is my medium for doing that.
So here I am, breaking my 2-year procrastination curse. Writing my first blog post.
See you soon for blog post number 2. (Update – my internal linking strategy post is now live)
